Itunes Piracy Issue & Authorizing Computers

Apple is having lapses in their security. The account of my teenage son suddenly showed approximately $600 in Itunes purchases that he did not make because of email alerts that he received from his account profile. Calling Bank of America, we learn that they are having a significant problem with Itunes theft.

The theft is account theft. He cancelled his credit card and put in the new number into Itunes store. 30 days later he got hit again.

So immediately, we tried to remove the CC number from his account. No can do!!!!. I cannot even remove the compromised credit card # because there is an outstanding balance on the account. DUH!!! Of course there is!!!. So all we could do was change his password.

When I looked at his account, I also noticed that someone had authorized a second computer. So I tried to deauthorize it, since clearly it was not ours. No can do. Apple only allows you to deauthorize a computer other than the one you are working on if you have 5 computers authorized. Not 4, or 3, but 5. What moron wrote that code?

So I have no way of removing unauthorized access to his account. Password changes are really insufficient.

And of course, customer service is impossible. They expect me to take my time and read FAQ’s, forums, etc., while someone is attempting to pound on my son’s account.

This is going to bite Apple in the _ss very soon. According to BofA, they are having a huge issue. But of course, the banks actually don’t mind theft. But that is another whole story!!
