Ease of Use and Integration Wins Again — YouTube

With all of the video sites out there, why did YouTube win? Fred Wilson does a great job of pointing out that ease of use and integration of YouTube into the larger ecosystem was the key.

Its kind of a version of the saying “Good Marketing beats Better Technology” every day of the week.

Ease of use is the killer differentiator. When we start providing a user experience akin to that of driving a car will win. The content is all out there, even today. But the way we go about accessing it and experiencing it is still very immature compared to consumer experiences.

The only reason we need driving lessons is to provide a modicum of protection to others since driving can be dangerous. Otherwise, the ability to drive a car requires very little training.

YouTube’s success should be a lesson to us all.
